So let’s talk about the brand. The story of Carl Hansen and Sorn sold in Portugal by MOYO, begins in 1908 when a Danish carpenter (Carl Hansen) decides to embrace a new project and open a small artisan furniture studio. Over the years, Carl Hansen & Sorn decides to represent new influencer designers without deviating from its main goal: to preserve classic design and bring together the best and most exceptional modern design furniture under one roof.

Now you may be wondering why this brand is so well known and loved. We have the answer to this question! We at Carl Hansen & Son believe that iconic design is a combination of simplicity, aesthetics and functionality, using high-quality materials for this purpose.

Carl Hansen & Son is a company driven by a distinctive and very beautiful tradition of craftsmanship, as it believes that every piece of furniture it produces tells a story where nothing has been left to chance. The company represents more than 100 years of Danish design history and its furniture is sold all over the world.

One of the most sought-after Danish designers of this brand is Hans J. Wegner, best known for his designs of modern chairs and armchairs such as Carl Hansen Wishbone Chair (CH24) which immediately became a success, the Lounge Chair (CH25), the famous design of the Shell Chair (CH07) and the Dining Chair (CH23). This fashion designer was born on April 2, 1914 and died on January 26, 2007.

Wegner designed more than 500 chairs during his lifetime, and many of them were considered works of art. The designer remains a symbol of Danish design to this day.

The Wishbone chair (CH24)

The Wishbone Chair was the first chair designed by Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son in 1949. It is inspired by ancient Chinese culture, with a «Y» shape that allows for comfortable back support. This chair remains a classic to this day because it is made with materials such as sustainable wood and a seat handcrafted from rope. Amazing, right?

The lounge chair (CH25)

The uncompromising choice of materials and many hours of care and skillful work have made this piece a revered furniture icon.
The Lounge Chair has remained extremely popular and in continuous production forever and is likened to a testament to Wegner’s visionary approach.

The dining chair (CH23)

The CH23 chair was one of the first chairs that Wegner designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Son in 1950. The company reintroduced it in 2017, once again making the early masterpieces part of its collection. As always, the design remains the same as the original Wegner designed, hand-drawn sketches, with all aesthetic and structural components intact.

The shell chair (CH07)

Last but not least, the Shell Chair.
Now considered one of Hans J. Wegner’s most iconic, breathtaking and innovative pieces, this chair has been patiently awaiting its arrival at the top and out of the spotlight for a few decades. The Shell Chair is nicknamed «The Smiling Chair», in Portuguese «Smiling Chair», due to the curvature of the wooden seat.

If you want to have a more minimalist but bold decor with a clean look, this is a brand you should bet on. When you choose a Carl Hansen & Son product, you get much more than just furniture. It becomes part of a characteristic and very beautiful artisan tradition.
