Between Aurélie Fretti and for me it’s a story of dogs and babka. No connection, one might say, except a real crush on this ceramist and sculptor who goes by the name of Di Fretto, as funny as she is talented, a former Parisian pubard who fled to the heart of the Lubéron a year ago with her three dogs, her man and her children. A place in his image, pure, simple and aesthetic that I hope to show you one day, a real playground where he gives free rein to his creativity. Of Italian origin on her father’s side and Polish on her mother’s side, Aurélie draws on these two cultures which she infuses into her work. On the one hand, a tribute to the bodies of antiquity, to the statues that he brings to life and that he deviates in his own way in reference to Italy with busts, upside-down heads transformed into lamps or vases, which invite the vocabulary of this era to play with current codes. On the other, a dive into childhood with Babka, one of his flagship pieces which he brought to life in homage to the famous Polish brioches of the same name. Superb pieces that we find in particular on this graceful table lamp, modeled in a white chamotte earth that takes the form of a twist with an irregular rendering that also evokes the vortices of life. But Babka also has ceramic or even wooden appliques that he cuts with a chainsaw and sculpts, wall sculptures or even molds that he transforms into appliques. Plot twists found in the oversized handles of his brightly colored enamel cups, which he also transformed into vases. From the cup to the wall fresco, Aurélie does not impose limits on herself and follows her desires, which she gives shape using different techniques that she learns during her creations. It is for all these reasons that I really wanted to present to you the poetic and inspired universe of this artist who is not afraid of anything, who exudes strength and fragility and who has the delicacy to shape pieces as beautiful as they are useful. My Babka lamp arrived in our living room a week ago; I look at it differently every day, I twisted, in agreement with Aurélie, its lampshade by twisting it with wool threads which add a material and softness that I like but the original one is in linen. Through several photos I will let you discover the world of Aurélie, her creations and of course her dogs, a topic of conversation that binds us now like this beautiful lamp, which spreads its grace and its light in our interior.
