The pendant lamp is a trend that is gaining more and more strength in furnishings. As it “hangs” from the ceiling, it causes an interesting effect, giving the room a lot of charm. Furthermore, thanks to its versatility, it can be inserted into the most diverse types of environments.
But there are so many types of models and formats that, at first glance, it may seem difficult to make the right choice. For this reason we have collected 5 tips for choosing your pendant lamp in the best possible way, without fear. Check!
1. Understand your role in the environment
First of all, you need to know what purpose the pendant should fulfill. Are we talking about a reading environment? Or perhaps a space to receive visitors or even a dining room?
The answer to these questions will guide your choices regarding the type of light, the style and even the installation.
If its function is, for example, to illuminate the entire space, the ideal is to use a translucent dome, whose diffused light will cover the entire space, in a comfortable and welcoming way.
To highlight an object or piece of furniture, a fully enclosed metal model does the job well. Furthermore, if the goal is to have targeted lighting for carrying out a task – be it reading, working, cooking or anything else – it is better to opt for a glass or acrylic dome, which provides brighter lighting.
2. Pay attention to the color and intensity of the light
Choosing the correct color and intensity of light will help make the space more comfortable and functional.
The white light is ideal for environments such as home offices or for sitting in reading chairs. The yellow light helps make the environment more welcoming and can be used in the living room or bedroom.
3. Define the style of the pendant lamp
The style of the pendant light should match the rest of the room’s decor. In other words, you can’t use a more modern design item if the space’s decor is rustic, right?
Also evaluate the prominence it will have in the room, so that it is not disproportionate compared to other elements, such as furniture and accessories.
Furthermore, it is important to favor models that offer installation flexibility, such as the ability to adjust the size of the wire. This way you won’t have any problems, whatever the ceiling height of the room.
4. Consider the ideal height
Respecting certain distances and proportions will help you create a more harmonious decoration. So, another tip not to forget when installing your lamp is to consider the ideal height.
The minimum distance between the ceiling and the hanging dome should be 20 centimeters, but there are other distance recommendations. I wait:
At the table
- Between floor and slope: 140 to 150 cm;
- between suspension and table top: 70 to 90 cm.
In the living room
- Between dome and table: from 150 to 170 cm;
- between dome and table: from 30 to 50 cm.
In the kitchen
- Between lamp and sink or table: 200 cm;
- between lamp and dining table: 70 to 100 cm.
In the room
- Between chandelier and bedside table: 30 to 50 cm.
In corridors and open areas
- Between dome and floor: 200 to 210 cm.
5. Pay attention to correct alignment
The alignment of the pendant will take place based on the position in which it is placed. But, it is worth underlining, it must be centered on what it illuminates, and not necessarily on the environment as a whole.
For example, if you want a pendant lamp to illuminate your dining table, it must be positioned considering where this furniture is located, even if this means that it is not centered in the room as a whole.
You can already see that it is not difficult to choose your pendant lamp without making any mistakes. With these tips, you will solve this task and create an even better decoration!
