Home office: inspiration and productivity

For a year now, «home» has no longer just represented the place where one retreats to spend time with the family or to rest. For a year, “home” also represented the place where you had to work, do the same things you did in the office and have the same productivity. For a year now, «home» has also meant home office.

The year 2026 has transformed the idea of having a home office into a landmark in the home, where it is necessary to create a balance between professional activities with specific agitation and the sanctuary of peace and relaxation called «home».

The layout of a workspace like this, which inspires and at the same time integrates harmoniously with the design of the entire house, to ensure productivity, must delimit an area, personalized through the provided structures and thus become comfortable.

The home office is a topic that has worried many people more than before in recent months. Under the conditions of the current pandemic, for many employees, the only solution to maintaining jobs and incomes was to work from home. So far everything seems correct, but the real problem arises when we come to count how many «home offices» we need at home.

Why should the home office be set up separately?

For many of us, the transition from a dedicated workspace to working from home has been difficult. Most likely, before the pandemic began, you didn’t have a special space in your home set up for work because you didn’t need it. To use the laptop all you needed was a sofa, a bed or an armchair, possibly the coffee table in the living room. In the current situation, if you want to separate office activities from domestic or relaxation activities, it is better to have a space specifically designed for work.

When working from home it is healthy and productive, highly recommended to stimulate creativity, to have a work space separate from the rest of the house. The ideal would be to have a free room that you can transform into an office or perhaps set up a corner of another room. It is important that it is a place intended only for working hours, secluded and well delimited, which does not disturb anyone, as it does not get in the way. Only in this way, when you have to work, will you actually be able to carry out your plan, without being distracted by the activities you usually do at home.

Another advantage of creating a work corner separate from the rest of the house is that you will not associate the place of relaxation with the place of work. The most important thing for this deal is that you enjoy working on it.

A minimalist design helps you be more organized, because a well-organized room leads to a well-organized mind. If you also work best in visually «clean» spaces with simple lines, then a minimalist design suits you perfectly.

Space-saving ideas for furnishing an office

  • The office in the living room. If you live in a small apartment or open-plan home, try to visually separate the work area from the rest of the room. We recommend using wooden slats or perforated decorative panels that will allow natural light to enter the office area and create the illusion of a secluded area. If you only have a few square meters to dedicate to the office, think vertically. Shelves above your work area can double your storage space. If the partition panel is perpendicular to the wall, the shelves can be stretched onto this panel. Instead of a desk lamp, opt for sconces or pendant lights if you want to free up your work surface. Color influences mood and this also applies to the home office. For a premium looking office, soothing shades and textures that make you feel comfortable, but at the same time remain in a fairly formal area are recommended. On the wall where you will set up the desk and shelves, put wallpaper in such colors that will visually separate the office area forever. If you have a job that requires creativity, bring colors, decorations or objects that inspire you into your workspace.
  • The desk in the guest room. If you have a more spacious home and have a guest room, it will certainly be very easy to transform it into a home office space. The necessary modifications depend on the size of the room and the remaining space available. If more space is needed, the double bed, if present, can be replaced with an extendable sofa, and part of the dressing room can be used as a space for storing documents to be produced. Ideally, the desk should be placed against the wall, if possible under the window for natural light. And here the zoning will be done using a local background to highlight that area.
  • The office in the attic. In an uninhabited or still partially furnished loft, it will be very simple, with a minimal investment, to set up the office. After installing all the cables and storage cabinets, after installing the right lighting, everything will be solved by choosing a work table, preferably one that allows you to work both standing and sitting. The design of the attic includes a specific color for the walls, given either by a wallpaper or by a washable, pastel, very relaxing color.
  • Corner desk for master bedroom. Ideally, your workspace should be in an area that’s a little separate from the rest of your home, but if you don’t have such a space, try putting your worktable in the master bedroom, as it’s a quiet room all day with no other activity. If there is not enough free space on a wall to fix the work table but there is enough space at the corners, you can choose to create the home office corner, i.e. L-shaped. You can maximize the space by placing boxes to store the documents produced under one of the arms.
  • The office in the warehouse. Even if it is a variant that only benefits from artificial light, it is very comfortable and above all silent, with the possibility of separation. In order not to permanently change the use of the closet, you can do without the shelf at the height of a desk, which when not in use can transform into a folding work table, all remaining closed in the «closet». The chair must also be stored here, under the desk furniture.

For all these arrangements you don’t have to worry, just come in Elegant furnishings and you will find all the materials needed to create the perfect home office setup you need.
