At the start of each year, we ask ourselves what interior design trends will shape it and how we can apply them to our lives. What is kept, what is changed, what do we give up and what do we continue with?
In terms of interior design, things don’t change as quickly as in fashion, for example, but there are more popular elements that we can take into account. We therefore asked six Romanian architects what the interior design trends will be for 2026.
Here’s what we discovered:

The eclectic style maintains its charm
Interior architects from the Delta Studio Design office believe that the year 2026 will especially highlight the diversity and versatility of the eclectic style in interior design. The combination of the modern or classic with the industrial still proves successful, but as a novelty the rustic, handcrafted inserts stand out, which come from the cottage (rustic) style.
“Last but not least, in 2026 we expect to see spectacular and lush interiors, enhanced by affiliations of new finishes and precious materials,” say the architects.
An interior like an exterior: as much nature as possible in our homes
The year 2026 left its mark on each of us, and more intensely we felt the need to be outside, in nature. We will also find this in full in the interior design trends for 2026: it will focus on the inclusion of plants in the largest possible proportions in the internal space, to invoke the benefits that we will be able to enjoy in the external space.
And the architect Cristiana Zgripcea perceived the beneficiaries’ need for contact with nature and advises us to opt for large terraces, where we can feel as if we were outdoors
Another trend he will take into account is the need for space to work from home: «Today we all need one or two desks in our homes, no matter how small. It happened to me that in one of my layouts, in a 50 square meter two-room apartment, I needed two desks.»
Neutral and monochrome color palettes
The architects of Delta Studio Design believe that the year 2026 pushes us to restore communion with the environment and to appropriate natural elements in the interior space:
“Neutral color palettes will dominate, defined by earthy colours, woody essences, sensational natures, stone textures, metallic elements and woven fibres. You will also notice surprising accents in the mix of textures and strong colours.”
Inserting stronger tones into a neutral interior denotes a strong and courageous character. It gives spaces a calm, relaxing and contemporary look.
Architect Cristiana Zgripcea predicts that interiors in one dominant shade will continue to be trendy. Monochromes will also be found in other colors, but white monochromes will be the strongest trend of 2026, with small beige accents, to create a very discreet, diaphanous and bright interior.
Strong, inward personalities to match
As the past year has tested all our patience, architect Sergiu Califar of Pure-Mess Design believes that 2026’s interior design trends will be about courage, about balance, about having arrangements that aren’t monotonous.
Sergiu will opt for very balanced, courageous and very stylish interiors, which fully reflect everyone’s personality: «The colors will be pronounced, they will be accentuated, they will be courageous, there will be shades such as cedar yellow, accentuated turquoise, many shades of purple and so on.»
Interior design trends 2026: functionality
Architect Irina Radu of iDecorate believes that 2026 will be a year characterized mainly by functionality. We will notice greater attention to spaces and their versatility. furniture multifunction (elements that have multiple roles, such as the kitchen island that also contains storage, a dining area and a cooking area) will occupy a rather important place in this year’s trends. It is still a consequence of the fact that we spend more time than before in our homes and have new needs.
This year Irina will turn to a slightly warmer industrial style, with more wood, combined with shades such as yellow, rust and greys. It states that «the materials that will be found in the arrangements this year are metal, stone and wood. The same materials used last year, only their weight will be slightly different. Metal is starting to take up a lot of space in the arrangements.»
Trends that stand the test of time
The architects of Delta Studio Design draw our attention to what is called the «trend trap»: «Obviously being in the trends is Cold. However, before trying to be Coldwe must learn to be authentic. The trap of trends is that, when they are chased and followed excessively, they give a temporality to arrangements, when in reality what we want is to create timeless environments.»
They therefore push us to use fashionable trends and elements, new combinations of colors and fashionable materials, but to filter all the information through our experience and not let ourselves be defined by the parameters of the year.
