The choice of ceramic tiles can be a starting point in itself or it can aim to highlight a particular piece of furniture or accessory. In both cases all the elements must be well related to each other to obtain a pleasant effect but also a balanced composition. The balance between furnishing elements is an essential feature for any furniture, as it brings comfort. Whether it’s a simple layout or a design that focuses on visual accents, good communication is essential. To achieve the desired effect and a coherent design, an architect or expert consultant will be able to provide you with the necessary guidance to create a pleasant environment within the home.
The kitchen can take the form of an auxiliary space of the house or even be unified with the living room. In any situation, its layout can transform it into an oasis of peace and comfort. The furniture, appliances and accessories, the organization and lighting of the space, but above all the finishes contribute to this: Choosing a suitable combination of ceramic tile – tile and tile is very important for the atmosphere of the kitchen.
PRINCIPLES AND TRENDS FOR COMBINATIONS OF STONEWARE AND KITCHEN TILES
When establishing the combinations between tiles and kitchen tiles, there are some fundamental principles that concern the relationship of the elements. We start by establishing the dominant elements and the neutral elements that highlight the former. In general, we find the following design principles:
- tiles with a strong texture/neutral tiles (complementarity)
- neutral tiles/tiles with a strong texture (complementarity)
- neutral tiles and tiles (similarity) / furniture with strong structure
- Neutral looking tile, tile and furniture/strong accents – accessories, wallpapered walls, etc. (complex formulas)
Starting from these principles, the textures, colors or style chosen for the kitchen tile-tile combinations lead to a diversity of aesthetic solutions. At the same time, recent design trends drive new explorations of materials and new aesthetic formulas:
- complex graphic pattern, inspired by local cultures
- strongly vibrating textures, with a pronounced sensorial effect
- sophisticated shades and saturated colors
- the appetite for retro, vintage, handmade and sustainable materials
STONEWARE AND KITCHEN TILES COMBINATIONS – COMPLEMENTARY FORMULAS
The association of ceramic coverings with a complementary image (strong-neutral) is already a «classic» formula in kitchen furnishings. However, it is not at all old-fashioned, especially when it adopts current textures. Even the modernist formula of black and white is rediscovered and updated by combining it with unusual styles.
A persistent trend in ceramic tile design is replicating the qualities of natural materials: wood or stone. For kitchens, the choice of a floor covered with textured wood-shaped tiles gives personality and warmth to the interior. In most cases, this is associated with light-colored, neutral-looking tiles, which give the interior performance and stability.
The two layouts proposed by Delta Studio focus on a strong texture of the floor, through ceramic tiles with a wood effect. The worktop acts as a mediating element between the texture of the tiles and the tiles, creating a discreet intermediate accent.
STONEWARE AND KITCHEN TILES COMBINATIONS – SIMILAR FORMULAS
When you opt for ceramic tiles with the same visual «weight», you leave the dominant place to a furnishing element with personality. Sometimes the floor plywood also extends onto one of the walls. At the same time, the current trend is for the wall finish to occupy the entire free surface of the wall. This is also associated with discontinuous wall furniture, which highlights the quality of the tiles.
The two layouts below are created using Keraben Grupo finishes. The tiles and wall coverings discreetly cover the floor and wall space, letting the furniture function as the dominant element. In the first arrangement the furniture has a certain robustness, in the second it focuses on refined accents, but well harmonized in the general atmosphere.
STONEWARE AND KITCHEN TILES COMBINATIONS – COMPLEX FORMULAS
In the two formulas mentioned above, the decoration is created by combining the furniture with the ceramic covering of the walls and floor. This association is realized as a relationship between dominant elements and neutral elements. An increasingly strong contemporary trend is for decoration to become more complex, integrating new elements. There is thus a pulsation of the environment, in which both the aforementioned «classic» elements and numerous accent elements participate. Among these we can mention: personalized metal accessories, appliances with a particular design, wallpapered walls, etc.
The images below illustrate this trend towards a sophisticated environment, with a strong sensorial character, with numerous carefully linked precious accents.
