Lighting fixtures are essential elements of your home’s design. It can often be complicated to decide between the multitude of variations, especially because every time you search you discover more and more unique models.
Perhaps the most important element in making a decision is knowing exactly what the primary purpose of the room for which you are choosing the light fixture will be. The spaces can be used for relaxation, household chores, work, etc. Each room in the house is intended for a different use and this must be taken into account when choosing the right lighting. Since your needs come first, you need to know what types of lighting each room needs and, accordingly, what you need to purchase.
What light is needed in the kitchen
Most of the time we use a lot of light in the kitchen, so it is advisable to use economical LED bulbs, which not only save money but also manage to change the color of the luminous flux. For the worktop area, we recommend a general light intensity of approximately 35 W/m2, or approximately 100 lm/m2, at a height between 85 and 100 cm from the floor. Local lighting must be approximately 300 lm/m2 on the work surface. I am kitchen chandeliers which must be positioned in such a way that the chef, during cooking, does not cast a shadow on the work surface with his body. In addition to the central lighting, we must also install lamps under the cabinets, which will illuminate the worktop perfectly. Here you can use rod-shaped fluorescent lamps or LED strips. Above the dining table we recommend installing kitchen chandeliers with adjustable height and which respects the size and shape of the table. The correct position is approximately 60 cm above the table surface and immediately above the eyes of a seated person.
Kitchen lighting fixtures
Since it is not possible to exploit natural light exclusively, artificial light can be provided by lighting fixtures particularly suitable for the kitchen.
Elegant lighting is represented by kitchen chandelierswhich can provide light throughout the room and can be an accessory that enhances the space. In the kitchen, where most activities involve specific work, the work lights that can be used are suspended ones, to illuminate the work surface directly from above. In the kitchen we carry out activities that, in most cases, concern cooking. Whether we are talking about cleaning or cutting vegetables or meat, special attention is required.
- The options for the kitchen work area, for ambient or general light, are ceiling-type luminaires kitchen chandelierssuspensions, ceiling lights or recessed spotlights. For a better effect and ideal distribution of light, it is best to opt for multiple pendant or pendant lamps, aligned along the tables and worktops. For the dining area, even for the ambient light, a modern chandelier or maybe two can make the difference. If you have a large table and are used to dining surrounded by many friends and family, dare to opt for a multi-arm chandelier that will stand out both in terms of design and practicality.
- The accent light in the kitchen is work lighting and is given by the lighting fixtures which are intended for some specific areas such as the worktops, the cooking area under the hood, areas integrated into the furniture. This accent light generally comes from fixtures attached to the ceiling. Under the coverings, to illuminate the work surface, the working light can be provided by fluorescent lamps, wall lamps, but also spotlights integrated into the furniture. Task lighting provides more efficiency to the room, in carrying out tasks here.
- Another option for dividing work spaces or points of interest in the kitchen is lighting incorporated into the furniture, with the help of spotlights or LED strips. They can direct the light onto the decorative elements or, why not, along the entire length of the kitchen counters.
